Speaking in the Senate, Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, said that the vast majority of countries recognize the strength of Brazil’s sanitary system and that all measures from the contingency plan to contain avian flu have been implemented.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce released a note evaluating as “clear, transparent, and organized” the position Brazilian authorities and companies are taking in the face of cases of HPAI A H5N1 in wild birds in the country. The disease has not infected production poultry.

Another case of avian influenza was detected in Brazil, this time in Rio Grande do Sul but again in a wild bird and not in the productive sector; consequently, the country remains free from the disease. A statement from Brazil’s meat trade lobby ABPA and a Rio Grande do Sul poultry organization said exports stay as usual.
