São Paulo – The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Association will take the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an opportunity to present the Lebanese diversity in Brazil. UNESCO celebrates the day on May 21, when the association will open the event “Lebanon: Country of Diversity and Harmony,” which will include an itinerant exhibition in São Paulo and the launching of Federal Lottery tickets with images on the theme. The opening occurs at 8:30 pm at Teatro SESI-FIESP, with a lecture about diversity following the same note of the event: women’s rights, gender diversity, and religious diversity, and others. The lecturer will be the attorney, author, and former prosecutor Luiza Nagib Eluf. According to the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Association president Lody Brais, the lecture will be an overview on the Lebanese diversity reality and make some comparisons with Brazil.
On the same day of the opening, the Lebanese dance and music group “1001 Noites”, by Raymond Bordokan, will perform. ission is free, but visitors are required to bring one kilo of non-perishable food to donate for charities.
According to Lody, the target audience is not just the Lebanese community but the Brazilian society, students, teachers, historians, philosophers, and others. Lody thinks it is important the Lebanese culture be shown to all.
The exhibitions around São Paulo will include s with photographic imagens of Lebanon, showing its harmony and diversity. There will be a show in three subway stations in São Paulo. São Bento station receives the pictures between May 10 to 31. Other stations and dates are still to be defined and may be checked later at the Metrô website. The s will be at Conjunto Nacional cultural space from June 5 to 25 and Casa das Rosas with a date still to be determined but planned to July, to last two months.
Federal Lottery tickets will be launched with images alluding to the Lebanese diversity. They will be the same images at the exhibitions, which were sent by Lebanon’s Ministry of Tourism, according to Lody. These tickets are expected to be available later this month of May.
Every year, the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Association holds events about Lebanon, related to historical dates that culturally bind Brazil and Lebanon together, and are aligned with UNESCO commemorative dates. This year, the decision was to show a Lebanese reality that Brazilians don’t know about, according to Lody. In addition to the main themes of the activities, it points to some other areas where Lebanon has progressed, becoming even more diverse, such as the worldly famous fashion and movie production.
The event “Lebanon: Country of diversity and harmony’ is held by the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Association together with Brazil’s Citizenship Ministry and ed by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Government of the State of São Paulo, Lebanon’s Ministry of Tourism, Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo, Government of the City of São Paulo, and Caixa Econômica Federal.
